Ok so now I've got to blog about Secondlife. A virtual world that is created and run by it's Residents (the term used instead of users) for people to "live" in and be what they want to be. In the game, Residents experience real life content, such as: trading and business, reacreational activities, education, etc. Besides these, problematic issues such as pornography and gambling has also arose in the virtual world. Through wiki, I've come to realize that secondlife is a very powerful medium from the fact that even prestigious Universities, such as Harvard and Stanford, use this platform for distance learnings. Besides education, diplomacy has also surfaced in Secondlife with countries setting up embassies for various reasons stated in wiki. Oh well, just read up more on wikipedia to get an insight on what is Secondlife.
Personally, I think Secondlife provides many opportunities for people to interact and meet new people and/or live how they want their lives to be. However I feel that this virtual world has the ability to take over a person's life. I would not like to think that Secondlife is a game but somehow it seems to be one. By being in the virtual world too much, people tend to lose touch with the real world. By being successful in the virtual world, I believe it would be really hard for him/her to leave the virtual world. Unless a really huge blow or crisis hits the person, they will just be stuck in the virtual world!!
I guess it's up to the individual to find out what they want in life.. This is just my opinion. :)
